Internet2 is a consortium of groups from academia, industry, and government formed in 1996 to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies. The Middleware Architecture Committee for Education aims to create an interoperable middleware infrastructure for research and education. MACE develops good-practices documents, designs pilot projects and intercampus experiments, and recommends technical standards. Internet2 working groups related to Grid standards include the Higher Education PKI Technical Activities Group, the Peer to-Peer Working Group, and the Shibboleth project.
