INSTITUT NATIONAL DE RECHERCHE EN INFORMATIQUE ET AUTOMATIQUE
INRIA, the national institute for research in computer science and control, operating under the dual authority of the Ministry of Research and the Ministry of Industry, is dedicated to fundamental and applied research in information and communication science and technology (ICST) and is a major participant in the development of ICST in France. Throughout its six research units in Rocquencourt, Rennes, Sophia Antipolis, Grenoble, Nancy and Bordeaux-Lille-Saclay, with around 2,700 scientists and 950 doctoral students, working in 120 joint research projects.

INRIA develops many partnerships with industry and fosters technology transfer and company foundation in the field of ICST. The Institute is participating in such standardisation committees as the IETF, ISO or the W3C of which INRIA was the European host from 1995 to 2002. It is partner in around 40 actions selected in FP6 (mainly in the IST field) and also collaborates with numerous scientific and academic institutions abroad (joint laboratories such as Liapunov, LIAMA, etc., associated research teams, training and internship programs).

The INRIA Reso team, belonging the RHONE-ALPES research unit, is located at the Laboratoire de l’Informatique du Parallélisme at LYON (FRANCE). The team studies and develops new solutions in terms of protocols, services and software for next generation Internet networks and infrastructure. The team works on optimised software architectures for efficient communications in end systems, cluster-based servers and programmable access equipments, and develops protocols and computations for efficient and customisable transport of heterogeneous streams in very high speed networks. We provide solutions that optimise both data movements and I/O management that are closely interdependent, by using the intelligence of network interface cards (NICs). RESO designs Grid network services and network middleware to avoid the applications to be network-aware, to simplify the programming and to optimise the execution of their communication parts while fully exploiting the capacities of the evolving network infrastructure. RESO collaborated with industrials partners like MYRICOM, SUNlabs, INTEL, FRANCE TELECOM R&D, ALCATEL.
